 ROLE MODEL OF THE PHILIPPINES


    The greatest contribution that Jose Rizal made to Philippine society was the inspiration he was able to ignite in the Filipino people with regard to their national identities and love for freedom through his ideology and peaceful reforms. It was during a time when the Filipino people were experiencing oppression due to Spanish governance that Jose Rizal used his intellect and bravery to prove that Filipinos could indeed strive for greatness and greatness in the realm of governance through their capabilities.

    ‎By his two books, *Noli Me Tangere* and *El Filibusterismo*, Rizal revealed the corruption of the Spanish friars and the officials of the government. This literary work of Rizal opened the eyes of the Filipinos on the injustices which were being suffered by them and encouraged them to challenge the oppressive authorities. Rizal’s work was another technique or tool in arousing nationalism in people because it planted the seeds of nationalism in them.

    ‎Rizal was also a firm believer in the importance of education as a passport to freedom. He strongly advocated that a Filipino who was educated could think and resist his oppressors in addition to doing good for his nation. Rizal advocated for change using the ideals of peace, equality, and responsibility.

‎    Nevertheless, Rizal’s death was the greatest symbol of his contribution to the country. His death made up the minds of the Filipinos to take up the cause for freedom and to celebrate his ideals. Through his unending love for his country, intellect, and sacrifice, Jose Rizal can be considered the face of the Philippines.
